Starters
Your vehicle's original starter goes by many names. GM might call it a starter motor or cranking motor. Mopar might call it a self-starter. Either way, remanufactured or new, what every factory starter does is self-evident. Put simply, a starter is a small, car battery-powered motor connected to a starter relay. It transfers the power your engine needs to start. A remote starter does this without a key turn; you press a button on a smart key fob, and your engine starts. When nothing happens, though, it's usually because your starter is bad. The usual causes? Dirty or loose wires, rust on your battery, or damaged or degraded starter parts. Signs of starter failure are plenty. Your dashboard can light up, though you have no engine power. Your engine may not rev, even after jump-starting it. You might start to see visible smoke. Your starter might be covered in oil. You might also be able to get the starter to turn in some drive modes or gears, but not others that is, if you can turn it at all. The best fix for a bad starter is to install a new OEM starter, direct from GM or Mopar. That's because the genuine article is built with your vehicle in mind, guaranteeing the right fit.
